I, too, do not shine when I rise.

Love,
LolaJanie Junebughttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10573607241326291404noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2000154353586469196.post-58132919535285065022011-10-11T21:27:58.465-07:002011-10-11T21:27:58.465-07:00Newman's version, from 1987, starred Joanne Wo...Newman's version, from 1987, starred Joanne Woodward, his wife, John Malkovich, Karen Allen, and James Naughton. My ever-wonderful 11th grade English teacher, Roberta Little (I search online occasionally to see what happened to her. Haven't found anything yet), who inspired me to become even more of a writer through what she taught and how she taught it (Seeking our opinions, fostering discussions, never holding her own opinion above all others), showed it in class and it became my favorite play. Malkovich is one of my favorite actors, and he became that in 10th grade English (at Flanagan High School) because of "Of Mice and Men", especially the scene in which he's breaking Casey Siemaszko's hand. The look on his face showed me what power in performance is.

My favorite line is when Amanda tells Tom to "Rise and shine" and Tom, in bed, replies quietly, "I'll rise, but I won't shine."Rory L.
